Ross hails from New Zealand and is therefore a natural fit for Aviatrade in the region.
Ross began his flying career in the early ‘70’s in the Royal Air Force (alongside Aviatrade’s president), and served on Harrier jump-jets in Germany. His Harrier flying led him to the Falklands conflict in the early ‘80’s, where he served with distinction during that war, both in air-to-air combat and ground support, based aboard HMS Hermes.
Upon Ross’s return to the UK, he was a fighter tactics instructor on the Hawk jet trainer.
Ross’s Royal Air Force ‘fame and fortune’ didn’t end with the Falklands war, in the mid-‘80’s he was also synchro-leader of the world-renowned RAF Red Arrows aerobatic team.
In 1986, Ross joined Cathay Pacific Airways and after three years was promoted to captain on the various Boeing 747 long-range aircraft, culminating with the 747-400. His flying career was capped with a three-year involvement as captain for the Dubai Royal Flight, flying for Sheikh Maktoum and the royal entourage. Ross maintains many private aviation connections in the region.
Nowadays, Ross’s adrenaline rush is courtesy of his BMW R1200 GS, which sees action on many by-roads in Europe and New Zealand. Ross is actively involved in the private jet business in the southern hemisphere and is a vital link in Aviatrade’s global coverage.
